WOW. I don't think we've been surrounded by so much love since our wedding 6 years ago! We had about 30 of our close friends and family join us in celebrating our "Littlefoot" (who still has no name!). The entire day was perfect. The weather was in the mid 80s with a nice breeze coming in from the lake. I had some groove-tastic music playing the entire time. The food was delicious and the gifts were amazing. I included a little insert with our invitation that asked our guests to please bring a book instead of a card and to sign the book with a note. If you know me, you know I love hand-written notes and letters, so reading what everyone wrote in their books really made my heart full.
I have always known exactly what I wanted my baby shower to look like for years now. It had to be full of handmade touches, flowers and bright colors. No themes. In the weeks leading up to the shower, I hosted 2 craft days at our house where a few friends and family helped me with putting together crafts like the flower crowns, table decorations and game pieces. I'm very pleased with how everything beautiful everything turned out!
We loved all the gifts but I think our favorite gift was the handmade blankets and burp cloths from a good friend of mine. There's just something that really makes my heart melt about someone who put their own thoughts, time and effort into making something from scratch. Every stitch to me represents a thought in their mind, a piece of their happiness and patience, a piece of them woven together in something that will hold our baby, wrapped with love.
For the games, I printed out the questions on paper and then cut and glued them to scrapbook paper. We tied them together with a piece of yarn and placed them at each seat around the table along with a flower crown, if they chose to wear one. ("Who knows Mommy best" and "Guess Who: Mommy or Daddy") I think our answers to the games surprised quite a few people! Just for future reference, if no one knows already what my favorite TV show of all time is, it's Little House on the Prairie! I'm such an addict. In fact, another favorite gift was the entire book set that Nick's mom gave me (maybe for the baby but I think I'll benefit more from it!!). :) There was also a game where Nick had to guess the baby food flavor. That was interesting! I had a taste of each too and the squash is so nasty!!! I don't know how he didn't spit that one out!
Thank you to everyone who traveled from hours away to be there for us; that really meant a lot. Thank you to the ones who sent a gift but couldn't be there in person. Thank you to everyone who pitched in and made this day absolutely perfect and for everyone who showed up ready for hugs and celebrations! Our baby is truly blessed to be coming into a world with all of you in it.
