Our little beam of sunshine had his first birthday on October 2; the day after mine 32nd (I think?!) birthday! Who even remembers how old they are after they pass 30?! Anyway, he wasn’t that interested in his cake even though he lovesss the Very Hungry Caterpillar. The cake was made by my talented friend Joanna with Luna Rose Custom Cakes. He was, however, super excited about his gift from us- a grocery cart! He loves that thing so much along with the dump truck my sister got him. He had a great birthday party with family and a few close friends at the park and got sooo many cool gifts. Pretty much anything with wheels is a hit!
He’s learned to play “hide and seek”, which his favorite “hiding place” is under his high chair or between his pack-n-play and our bed. It’s so stinkin’ cute. He very much loves this letter B. You’ll see it in a lot of the pictures below. I don’t know why he’s so in love with it, but that and his blankie ease his troubles almost as much as Mama! ;)
This kid LOVES to be outside and pitches a major tantrum when it’s time to come in. I feel ya, kid, but it’s super cold out now! He’s so incredibly intelligent despite not speaking very many words. Here’s some things I jotted down the other day: (I debated on sharing these because, well, I’m sure some of you don’t really care or if you’re a parent you’re probably thinking this is just good development stuff. But y’all MY kid is a genious!) hehe
SO:
Recognizes and can identify (most times) when asked where it is: A,B,C,D,H,K,O,R,S,T,W,Z and the numbers 1,2,3,4,5,9. Points to things that are the same and can count things up to 6. He knows what these look like: butterfly, caterpillar, ladybug, bird, cow, horse, sheep, chicken, Jesus and a “Jesus cross”, stop sign, fire hydrant, boy, girl, man, lady, firetruck, bus, sunshine, moon, duck, octopus, fish, wormie, person with a hat on, dump truck, shapes: heart, star, triangle, a clock, his belly, toes, legs, knee and feet, everyone else’s nose. Ha! Also, screws, bolts, and can find wheels on ANYTHING. He points to wheels constantly and gets upset that we can go touch all the neighbor’s wheels on their cars.
He can do simple tasks like: pick it up and put it in the basket, turn light off/on, turn it around, open/close the door, , put it “up high” (this is my tactic for washing his hair- putting a letter up high on the bathtub wall so his head will tilt back), pat Saber, turn the page, clap your hands, high five, put it in the cupholder, group hugs, asking him to go find something that’s in another room, and probably more stuff.
Can say Mama, Dada, Papa, Duh (duck) and make other sounds.
He does NOT like new things. New people or new foods. They take a lottt of adjusting to. He also screams bloody murder the second we step in a doctors office so that’s always fun. ;)
Generally, he’s a pretty happy little dude that loves to laugh like his Mama. It seems like every day he’s doing something sillier than the day before. :)
